Madmen in the traffic on New Year’s Eve!

So 2020 is here and I hope you all are alive and well. How your New Year’s Eve went? We (me & my lovely girl) went to Pärnu to Strand SPA & Conference Hotel and spent some cozy time together there.

As I live in Tallinn we had to drive about 120 km to Pärnu first and the highway to there was pretty much nightmarish. Mad people doing kamikazes in the traffic to get in front of others because they’re in such a hurry to someplace. Like we were driving 90km/h and some folks drive right passed us like we were standing. Like where are you in a hurry? To a chapel? During the whole highway to Pärnu there were multiple occasions where the overtaking could’ve ended very sadly. At one point even one of the trucks with cargo did some sudden maneuvers where the cargo was bouncing from one side of the tires to the other to avoid the collision.

If you’re doing dangerous overtaking then you’re causing even more of them. Because other the guy has to slow down from the allowed speed to let you back in the lane so you wouldn’t crash into the upcoming vehicle. Which causes others behind the guy also to slow down. This also makes many people feel like the guys in the front are slow and start to make the overtaking as well, so the cycle continues.

When we finally arrived in Pärnu it was a nice breeze of fresh air from a traffic standpoint. The city was quiet, traffic was pretty much non-existing which calmed the nerves getting off the highway. We drove passed the Pärnu’s famous Steffani Pizza and when we arrived at the Strand the parking lot was full. Fortunately the parking lot in the back had few places left. The next day when we left we saw even tire marks on the grass near the parking lot so it got pretty crowded.

We arrived at Strand an hour or so late so we only had few people in front of us in the check-in. After we filled in the form and got our access cards then we head to our rooms which were nice and clean, nothing to complain. Except some slippers would’ve come in handy. SPA itself was pretty small, but the jacuzzi and saunas were great. At midnight the fireworks in the city were mediocre, nothing too special. Few people shot some nicer blasts to the sky and some locals wished us a happy new year.

In the morning we went to the restaurant in Strand and I have to tell that the food was delicious. After breakfast, I slept a little more and then we packed our bags and started driving back to Tallinn. We wanted to visit so bad Steffani’s Pizza but the breakfast in the Strand was just so filling. Our stomachs were so full we couldn’t drink even another cup of water. Maybe soon I visit Pärnu again and have more time to explore the city.

Have you any ideas about where to go in next year’s eve?

PS Also, what’s with the expensive Audi drivers who can’t park? I just see it so many times and it’s always one of the expensive ones. Also if you have an Audi and park correctly then I’m not mad at you. Can someone explain to me what goes through their head when they park like an idiot and leave it like that? Like, have some decency to be polite and honor your car’s brand.

  1. Because if your car costs more than 30 grand, you are obviously better than everyone else and traffic/parking should be organized around you.

  2. If I had Audi I would reason something along with the following.

Read it like your mind couldn’t catch up with the surroundings. You are short-breathed from running. You almost crashed your car into someone when turning left. And action!

“Oooh fuck! I promised to pick her up 7minutes ago! Okay okay, flowers, chocolate, what about… already here?!? Okay. Lucky me, a few free spots, I’ll just leave it here! I’m fast as Sonic – I’ll be gone only for 3 minutes, nobody shouldn’t even notice me. Hell, even if somebody comes they can use those other 2 spots!”

And then they spend >15 minutes shopping and choosing flowers. Yep, I bet they mostly are in hurry and couldn’t think clear.
