First of all the following doesn’t apply to everybody. I’m speaking from my experience what I had been through a couple of years so the different details may have a different kind of effect.
Back in the day, in Polytechnic school I did a little bit of freelancing work and afterwards, we as Polytechnic school graduates started a company. At first, we didn’t have any office so we mainly worked from home (at some point we had the funds for office). At that time working from home at first I was excited… That there is no transporting related time waste and I can have my comforts at home but after a few months, I noticed a change. I was starting to get nervous, so I started to analyse why is it happening. After some time I figured it out.
I felt that after I’ve done work I really can’t get into a relaxing state, I always had that little alert in my head that any moment there could be some incoming work-related message from email or other social channels. So when I sometimes even took a week off then I couldn’t get that rested feeling at all. Which also made me more irritable and then the second most biggest thing emerged…
I started to realise that there are also a few disrupting factors which are coming from home and other people who are living with you. Because you know… home stuff is the most important thing for the person who needs your aid and everything else must be cancelled as they speak. I don’t know how your personality is but in my case it’s very irritating if I have to stop on already focused on-going topic frequently. Because it takes a lot of time (10-30min usually in my case) to get into that work-flow state. So if the work-flow is stopped frequently then the work efficiency and output quality drop which is obviosuly not good for your work. Related to this I sometimes snapped to the people in home which influenced our relations in not a good way because of those frequent disruptions.
My suggestion is to find some other place that’s not your home where you work. It could be even friend’s place who is not bothering you most of the time and doing he’s/her’s things or some coffee shop. Yes there are disruptive sounds and other things sometimes but mostly the surrounding is not trying to target you for possible pseudo tasks.
