Last Monday I burned both of my hands with a glass bowl lid. I was making food for the evening and for the next few days to take that to school also. Because poor student as I am. Just when I was about to finish cooking the accident happened. I took the lid with gloves and when I tried to flip it then the lid slip from my fingers. From reflex, I tried to grab it, because the only thing which came to mind was “glass -> falls -> shatters -> sharp near-invisible pieces everywhere”. But it looked like my luck just ran out at that moment and the lid on full length landed for a fraction of a second on the side of my hand – from wrist to elbow pretty much.
I wasn’t writing much from my own life because I had difficulties writing with the injury and the stinging pain also made hard to think creatively. In school, I even got a new name “Bad Luck Caupo” because of the unfortunates – as my wisdom tooth extraction was about to recover and then this burning accident.
If anyone burns some parts of the skin then the first thing to do is hold the burned area under cool water (not cold!) so the whole area cools down. Also the best way is using water, not anything solid. As my friend Dr. Legit (she works in an ambulance) said that the burned area has a boiling egg effect. The main purpose is to chill the skin down and hold it there as long it gets pleasant. I think I held my hand in the water for like 2 hours in total. First part was 30 minutes straight and then with like pauses, 20 minutes underwater, then few minutes outside when it started to hurt again and then 15 or 20 minutes underwater when it finally didn’t hurt as much. Then I applied some kind of burned skin cream to treat the skin and then bandaged it.
In the weekend I took a train to Tapa to my lovely Triin, she’s uncle had jubilee on Saturday so we went to celebrate it. She’s the entire house was in there. I had seen half of them or so but now saw many new faces. We didn’t talk much together, but we all participated in a few party games.
Last week I’ve pretty much-changed bandages on one hand and treated the other one too which didn’t get burn so much. And I’m so thankful that I have so caring and loving wife who helps to treat my wounds. Other hand only has like 1cm x 10cm burnt stripe on wrist.
Oh and last current events about the wisdom tooth… I was rinsing my mouth with luke-warm chamomile tea on Saturday when suddenly I felt like few sharp pieces in my mouth. I was startled and thought “geez, can’t I get even a little break”, my first thought was pretty much that now my other tooth was sending out some tiny pieces. I checked all my teeth but didn’t find anywhere it was missing. So it must’ve originated from the extracted tooth tissue and previous days the tissue was swollen a lot and made a good amount of stingy pain. After those tooth pieces came out my swollen went away in the next 30 minutes or so and the need to twitch with the tongue there also vanished. For now, most of it is cured but some stitches are still there but don’t bother me anymore.
In this week I’m mostly studying Theory of Probability because I have a test next week and I can’t understand it much. So wish me luck.
I think this is all for now… I’ll write soon again.
Little notice- cold water, but not ice cold 🙂
